THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Choregraphy:  Mathilde Van de Wiele
Music: Refrain 4,  Amor dov'è la fe by The Dowland Project
Performed by: Het Internationaal Danstheater 2014
Original cast: Rossana Caldarera/ Francesca Peniguel, Jeroen Van Acker
Length: 9 minutes

“Love she said"
motionless staring at the sky,
where is the loyalty
the traitor has sworn?”
I started with the literal message of this song.
A woman struggles with feelings of sadness and love for her husband, like a mirror that ultimately every relationship is.

Press:
'Van de Wiele' puts a melancholic surrender, sensuality and tenderness between man and woman in her work inspired by Monteverdi's baroque 'Amor Dov' è la fe'. With shadowplay and convincing duets she makes the hearts of the audience beat faster.

In her duet “Through the looking glass”, Mathilde explores feelings of love and grief.
It is a strong piece with an excellent choice in light design and relevant metaphorical choreography. In the partnerwork a feeling of possible lack of trust and support come forward in a very subtle way
